Nightjar on the beach

whilst standing watching a party of four Greater Sand Plovers on the rocks off Mandria they suddenly ducked and panicked flying off as if a raptor was approaching; scanning the sea I picked up a dark falcon coming in low over the waves --- but as it came closer it was clear it was no falcon but a Nightjar which passed low over the edge of the beach and then suddenly dived into a small bunker type hole on the upper shore; a careful approach revealed the bird sitting on a metal sheet no doubt happy to have made it over the sea in broad daylight; having studied Nightjars on their UK breeding grounds for several years it was strange to see one on migration in broad daylight
